Italy has implemented the Use for the purpose of research or private study (Art. 5.3(n) InfoSoc) exception in Article 71 ter of the Law for the Protection of Copyright and Neighbouring Rights. The national exception closely resembles the EU exception.

Implementation summary:

This exception allows for the communication or making available to individual members of the public by dedicated terminals on the premises of publicly accessible libraries, educational establishment, museums or archives, for the purpose of research or private study. The access is limited to the works and other subject matter contained in beneficiaries' collections that are not subject to purchase or licensing terms.
