Italy has implemented the Press review (Art. 5.3(c) 1st part InfoSoc) exception in Article 65(1) of Law for the Protection of Copyright and Neighbouring Rights. The national exception is slightly more restrictive than the EU exception.

This exception allows for the reproduction and communication to the public in magazines, newspapers or in broadcast news programs of articles of current interest, of economic, political or religious character, published in magazines or newspapers, as well as articles broadcast or made available to the public, and other subject-matters of the same character. These uses are allowed unless reproduction or utilization are expressly reserved and provided the source, the date and the author’s name, if quoted, are indicated.

Remarks: The Italian law differs between exceptions, where use is exempt from the rightsholder's authorisation and no payment is due, and limitations, where payment of equitable compensation is due.

Under art. 71decies, exceptions and limitations to authors’ right apply also to the neighbouring rights.
